
Outstanding basketball player. Holds the school rebounding record. Without parallel as a track performer, probably the best high school trackman ever in the State of North Dakota. As a sophomore in 1974 at the State Indoor Meet, he scored all the NDSD team points giving NDSD the co-championship title. In the 1974 State Outdoor Meet, he won firsts in the 100, 220, 440 and second in the 180-yard low hurdles as NDSD won the 1974 Class B State Track Championship. In the 1975 State Track Meet he won four firsts, only the second person to accomplish this feat, as NDSD won third place. He holds the all-time state best time of 48.4 in the 440 set at the 1975 State Meet. Other honors: 1974 Junior Deaf American Outstanding Trackman of the Year, 1974 and 1975 Deaf American Trackman of the Year, 1975 North Dakota High School Athlete of the Year (only deaf athlete to win this top state honor). Member of the 1975 USA Pan American Championship Track Team that competed in Venezuela. He won the 100-meter event in 10.7 before an injury sidelined him. In the 1977 World Games for the Deaf team, he won the 400-meter hudles and anchored the winning 1600-meter relay team. Holds the following NDSD records: 100, 9.85; 220, 22.0; 440, 48.4; 180 low hurdles, 19.75, and long jump, 22’5 ½” (now eclipsed by another NDSD Hall of Famer, Brian Billman).
