Michael Mueller was a teammate of Rolf Harmsen at the 1922 State Track Meet where he took first in the 880-yard run and third in the 440 and the mile. His 880 time of 2:04.8 was a state record. It is also the NDSD record which still stands and will never be broken since the switch to metric measurements. His nine points in this meet gave NDSD a second place finish to Grand Forks and Fargo which won the title by only one point.
